Aleksander Nohr

After completing his education at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen, the Norwegian baritone Aleksander Nohr was engaged as a trainee soloist at Den Norske Opera & Ballett, where he distinguished himself in minor roles in Don Giovanni, Carmen, La traviata, Madama Butterfly and Viva la mamma.

Before Nohr became a permanent employee at the National Opera in the autumn of 2023, he appeared as Schaunard in Herheim's La bohème, as Mr. Redburn in Billy Budd, and as Moralès in Carmen. In the spring of 2022 he was back in the Norwegian Opera & Ballet as Starek in Jenufa, and in the autumn of 2022 he took part in the concert version of Wonderful Bernstein!.

Since then, he has done Dandini in Cenerentola, Baron Douphol in La traviata, Dr. Pangloss/Martin in Candide, Jupiter in Orpheus in the Underworld and Fra Melitone in the concert version of La forza del destino.

In 2015 Aleksander sang Escamillo in Carmen at Ringsakeroperaen. He later performed this role at Malmö Opera in 2019, and later at the Arctic Philharmonic in Bodø. In 2016 he sang Dandini in La Cenerentola at the Jutland Opera in Denmark with great success.

Other engagements include Count La nozze di Figaro with the Arctic Philharmonic, Dido and Aeneas with Concerto Copenhagen, Kristoffer Rustung in Olav Engelbrektsson with Opera Trøndelag, Escamillo in Carmen at Opera in Kristiansund and Malmö Opera, Ping in Turandot at Opera Trøndelag and in Kristiansund, and Marcello in La bohème at RingsakerOperaen.

Nohr has sung concerts with several of the largest orchestras in Scandinavia, and has a fondness for the Romantic Lied genre. He has sung at a number of song festivals, and recorded songs by John Frandsen and Peter Heise on Dacapo Records.

Aleksander Nohr has studied in Trondheim with Kåre Bjørkøy, in Copenhagen with Professor Kirsten Buhl Møller and has participated in master classes with, among others, Bo Skovhus, Anne Lise Berntsen, Mikael Eliasen, Fiona MacSherry and Ouri Bronchti. He has received several legacies and scholarships in both Norway and Denmark, including Statens Kunstnerstipend for newly established artists, and support from the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation.
