Rodrigo Porras Garulo opened his 2022/23 Season as Cavaradossi in TOSCA at State Opera Prague under the baton of the new music director Andriy Yurkevych and as Mark in THE WRECKERS at Philharmonie Berlin with Robin Ticciati leading the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester. Further plans include his house debut at Oper Köln as Rodolfo in Christoph Loy’s LUISA MILLER conducted by Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, as well as his return to Oper Frankfurt as Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi, to State Opera Hanover as Cavaradossi and to State TheaterKarlsruhe in his role debut as Prince in RUSALKA
The season 2021/22 was marked by the 2022 Glyndebourne Festival and the BBC Proms with Mr. Porras Garulo’s acclaimed portrayal of Mark in the production of Melly Still’s THE WRECKERS. Highlights during that season included his debut as DON CARLO at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden, his house debut at Oper Frankfurt in the role of Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY, as well as Rodolfo in LA BOHÈME at Landestheater Linz with Marcus Poschner conducting the Bruckner Orchestra Linz.
In the past Mr. Porras Garulo has appeared in the main roles of his repertoire at Teatro Alla Scala, Opera Frankfurt, Opera Leipzig, Gärtnerplatz Theater, Festival Ljubljana, Latvian National Opera, Croatian National Theater Zagreb, Opera Tours, State Opera Astana, among others. He sung under the baton of some of the world’s leading conductors, including Charles Dutoit, Daniel Oren, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Dan Ettinger, Julia Jones, Ivan Ciampa, Ainars Rubikis, Robert Trevino, Alan Buribayev, Konstantin Trinks, Justin Brown, Daniele Squeo, Johannes Willig, Kevin Edusei, Peter Halász and Vincenzo Milletarì.
Born in Mexico City, Rodrigo Porras Garulo studied voice at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, with KS Helene Schneiderman, and attended private lessons with professor Antonio Carangelo. From 2010 to 2015 he was a company member of the South Thuringen State Opera and from 2017 to 2020 of the State Theater Karlsruhe. In 2019 he had the honour to give his debut at Teatro Alla Scala as the Duke in RIGOLETTO, co-starring the legendary Leo Nucci. Mr. Porras Garulo was nominated as Singer Of The Year by music critic Michael Stallknecht (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Opernwelt) in Opernwelt Magazine due to his interpretation of Calaf in TURANDOT at State Theater Karlsruhe. He is a winner of the International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition and scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association Würzburg.
