Bluebeard's Castle

Bluebeard and redstockings – Go deeper with researchers from the Universities of Oslo, Berkeley, and Chicago

We hereby invite you to a half-day seminar in collaboration with the Department of Musicology and the Center for Gender Research at the University of Oslo.

Here you will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with the three works in the triple-bill Bluebeard's castle, with Tobias Kratzer's production, and with feminist interpretations of the myth of the woman who enters the castle of a mysterious man.

How is this narrative relevant to us today? How can men's retellings of women's lives be part of a feminist project? And what can we really learn from this specific performance?

You will hear:

  • Tobias Kratzer, director
  • Mary-Ann Smart, Professor of Music, University of California, Berkeley.
  • David Levin, Professor in the Departments of Germanic Studies and Cinema and Media Studies, and Theater and Performance Studies, University of Chicago.
