Young talent that takes your breath away

The young talented dancers of the Norwegian National Ballet 2 are back with their own spring performance, which includes Kylián’s boundary-pushing and energetic ballet Sleepless.

In the spring of 2019, the company, which consists of 16 dancers ages 17 to 23 years, was invited to go on tour to London and the Young Talent Festival. In 2020, they will be putting on their own show in Bjørvika.

Pushing the boundaries

The programme includes Jiří Kylián’s ballet Sleepless, created in 2005 for six young dancers and the perfect example of this master choreographer’s unique signature: modern ballet that is both beautiful and odd, mysterious and high-energy.

From a transverse canvas divided vertically, we see dancers emerge in the strangest of ways, performing a dance that is fast, flexible and frantic, yet clever and quick-witted!

The best young dancers

The rest of the programme also aims to reflect the Norwegian National Ballet’s artistic curriculum, with samples from both the classic and contemporary repertoire and performed with an energy that leaves the audience gasping for air.

When the NNB2 danced its first performance in the spring of 2016, it was nominated for the Norwegian Dance Critics Award. In addition to its own performances and touring activities, the company contributes to the Norwegian National Ballet’s productions, including La Bayadère and The Nutcracker. The company is currently made up of Norwegian and foreign talents ages 17 to 23 years and headed by Assistant Director of the Norwegian National Ballet Richard Suttie.

Saturdance 22. February

At Saturdance events you can see excerpts from ballets about to première, and meet dancers, choreographers and Ballet Director Ingrid Lorentzen. The events provide an opportunity to get up close and personal with the dance and are free and open to everyone. And who knows, perhaps the youngest audience members will also have a chance to test out the dance floor afterwards? The events are held in the foyer.

There are no Saturdance events prior to repeat performances.
